Like Oregon
She said,
“I went West,
because I always wanted to,
ever since I was a little girl.
For me,
this is West.
And I came,
and I got an education,
and I got married in bare feet,
and I had babies with my shoes on.”
And I went North,
and one year later,
she left him in her bare feet.
In grace,
and sin,
and life,
and death,
and half-life,
and good whiskey,
and bare feet,
and crowns of thorns,
The noblest thing you’ll ever do is go West.

Three-oh-eight
At three-oh-eight aye emm I am not asleep.
I am not awake,
but certainly,
most certainly,
I am not asleep.
I can pay my own bills.
Not all of them,
but most of them,
and as for all of them,
well I’m working on that.
Because it is presently three-eleven aye emm.
And I am getting paid to be here,
although most mornings I feel like I’m paying for having been here,
working,
working,
working,
at such ungodly hours
as three-fourteen aye emm.
Maybe as you’re reading this,
it’s something more along the lines of
two-twenty-nine pee emm,
or six-forty-one pee emm,
or perhaps it is, as it is now,
three-sixteen aye emm,
but I will be fast asleep in a warm bed
with all bills paid,
unlike when I wrote this,
long ago,
at three-eighteen aye emm.
But for now,
I am getting paid to be here,
and it is three-nineteen aye emm
and the words keep
coming,
coming,
coming.
Redemption is a very difficult thing to find.

Oh sweetie. We’re back together now. I missed you too. <3 Oh how could I ever be so far from my wifey for so long? I don’t know how I survived.
Thank God we are finally reunited.

Just Women
It’s mostly ladies in charge here,
sort of like the younger ones on the streets by my house,
in their running shorts and square diamond earrings,
buying vodka in every flavor,
and never tipping at my tables.
But I am not home now,
and it’s mostly ladies in charge here,
except for the one man who thinks he’s in charge,
and says he’ll have your car towed,
but he’s not.
And he won’t.
Because it’s mostly ladies here,
except not ladies,
just women.
I've been reading a lot of Bukowski lately.
And I think he’s rubbing off on me, judging by my drinking and smoking habits the last few days.
